Torrevieja, Spain located on the Costa Blanca in the Alicante province is a very popular location for second, or holiday, homes. Torrevieja is very popular among British, German and Scandinavian visitors. In fact, Torrevieja has the largest British transplant population of any of the municipalities of southern Spain, estimated at approximately 14% of the local population of more than 103,000 citizens.

Torrevieja's name means old tower, a nod to the town's first use as an actual guard tower location. Later, Torrevieja became a successful salt mining and fishing town, due to its convenient location between two salt water lakes and the Mediterranean Sea. The salt mined in this location was heavily imported by the Swedish and Dutch in the 19th century and salt mining is still an important industry for the region today. However, due to it's fantastic micro climate, Torreviejo has gained both European and international recognition as a very popular place for the purchase of vacation, investment or retirement property.

Research into purchasing real estate in Torrevieja can and should be a very enjoyable experience. When trying to determine where in Torreviejo you would like to purchase property, explore the area and experience what it is like in different places at different times of the year. This way, you can decide where you want to live when.

Torreviejo is a very popular and tourist-attracting village, with many restaurants, shopping areas, bars and beaches. When you are there, figure out what you want to do the most, what you actually do the most and purchase your property accordingly. If you are a shopper who likes to turn in early after a walk on the beach, a place in the middle of a nightlife haven won't be your first choice. If you live to see the sun come up, find a place in the middle of the action. There are both options available in Torreviejo, so make sure you spend enough time in the area to make yourself the happiest.

Real estate in Torrevio may be purchased through a Spanish loan company, or through a bank or financial institution in your home country. There are likely differences in loan interest rates depending on your location, so make sure you find the best one for you at the time of your purchase.

If you decide to go through a Spanish company and Spanish is not a language you are fluent in, finding a real estate attorney that is will be very helpful. The laws are going to be different in this area than others, so making sure you know exactly what you are getting into will be nothing but beneficial to your purchase.
